A good citizen is someone who contributes to their community, respects others, is cooperative, a good leader, and obeys laws. A good citizen stays informed and up to date on important issues and what’s going on in the community. Qualities that a good citizen possess are kindness, empathy, honesty, integrity, compassion, respect, and selflessness. Let me repeat the last word again SELF-LESS-NESS. They demonstrate moral values, they treat others with fairness and strive to make a positive impact on Long County through their actions, words, and choices. The person we have selected as the 2024 Long County Citizen of the year has every single quality I have just named. This person is at every single event, through the rain, sunshine, hurricane, and everything in between this person is present with a positive attitude. This citizen has a glass half-full outlook on life and never the latter. I often personally find myself being negative and this citizen brings me right back to the positive side. This citizen is often the first to arrive and the last to leave when it comes to community events. Long County is privileged to have a SELF-LESS citizen like you! I can speak for everyone on this board as well as the other organizations I’m affiliated with, we are honored to work alongside you as well as call you friend! We were proud to have this citizen serve as the 2023 grand marshal and now we are even prouder to announce you, Tammy Goober as the 2024 Long County Citizen of the year! - Lynette our correspondence secretary stated as she presented the award!
"A lifelong resident of Long County. I attended Long County High School and graduated in 1987.
I began my job as library manager at Long County public Library in 2014, where I quickly realized it is my dream job. I had a few goals when I began my work at the library: To grow patronage and increase programs, connect with local government and funders and update the facility.
And: For the library to become a center of enthusiasm for the community. For the library to make our community proud. I love my job and how it has allowed me to give back to the community I call home.
Married to my high school sweetheart, Tony Goober for 37 years. Have 2 children- Heather (Wade) and James (Taylar) and 3 grandchildren—Elaina, Ava and Langston. "
If you ever need her, she will be there. Tammy truly loves Long County and that's why we chose Mrs. Tammy Goober as our 2024 Citizen of the year. Congratulations and thank you for everything you do in our community!
